REMINDERS:

Boat Identification

It is now an ARA rule that ALL boats must display standard boat identification. You may well already know your club’s ID code; if not, it can be obtained from the ARA. It is compulsory for your boat to carry your club’s letters and a number whenever it is on the Thames.

These boat stickers can easily be made up by and bought from:

All crews and coxes should have watched the Tideway Racing Safety video created and provided free by The Tideway Processional Races group.

As before, we would like to remind coaches that the Third Eights event is for genuine Third Eights, and not an alternative J16 event.

All crews should adhere to the ARA safety code and note the following:

The Committee emphasise that rowing on the Tideway is very different from rowing on still or non-tidal waters.  Good coxing and watermanship are essential if the race is to be an event which is safe and enjoyable for all participants.  We therefore urge coaches to use their discretion in making their entries, and consider whether weaker crews should be entered.  We also remind them that it is permissible to use coxes who are older than the age group they are coxing.

Registration and ARA Day Tickets

Every year, some clubs and schools provide entries lacking ARA registration numbers.  Some numbers are submitted extremely late - even up to the day of the race, putting a great burden on the Secretary for Entries.  The Committee reminds you that it is each competing club's responsibility to make sure that all competitors are registered with the ARA.  The Committee reserves the right to refuse entries, which are incomplete in this respect.

The administration of the ARA day ticket scheme has become much more onerous with tickets having to be individually completed and returned for each competitor buying one.  Please do not use day tickets unless you have to (for a late crew change, for example).

Boating Arrangements

We would encourage you to make the same arrangements as you did last year. You MUST contact the club where you intend to boat in good time, and indicate your boating arrangements on the entry form, in the space provided.  Boating at Putney is going to be severely restricted again this year.
